	Sanlitun - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Sanlitun (三里屯) is a bar street in eastern urban Beijing, China.
		Prior to 1949, the Beijing Legation Quarter was the center of diplomatic acitivity in the capital.
		Sanlitun's bar business grew when, along with the reforms of the late 1970s and early 1980s, bar serving at first to expats and later to locals as well started to grow, first in international hotels, and then outside of hotels as well.

	A new check-out of Sanlitun
		I like getting drunk and obnoxious in public as much as the next man and thus decided to sate my penchant for al fresco boozing with a visit to Sanlitun, where I could enjoy a few of the area's outdoor venues before the nip of winter set in.
		After running the gauntlet of small dirty children I managed to make it to Top's roof terrace, which is now partially covered, perhaps in an attempt to get the most out of what's left of the temperate climate.
		Sanlitun newcomer Shooters also has outdoor seating where you can sit back and watch Beijing's new batch of students find sport in tossing around said dirty children.

		Two - the Silk Market and Sanlitun Nanjie - have been in every tourist guide-book for decades, while the third - The Lido Market - was an established favourite with residents and tourists alike in the north-eastern suburbs of Dashanzi.
		Sanlitun Nanjie always was the better cousin of the nearby Sanlitun Bei Lu.
		The original crowded, seedy bars on Sanlitun Nan Lu have long gone, to be replaced by a strip of grass and modern, empty cubist buildings with as much ambience as a dog's bum with a hat on.

	The Tree - Belgian Beer Bar (Formerly the Hidden Tree)
		Although the de/reconstruction of Beijing has meant the Hidden Tree bar on Sanlitun Nanjie no longer exists, The Tree has uprooted and moved to the North Bar Street.
		The Tree is now in the heart of the Sanlitun nightlife area, helping keep the other bars in the area such as Kai, Aperitivo and Poachers alive every night of the week.
		There were designs to move the existing wood fired pizza oven to the new location, but instead a new one was built and the pizzas are as popular now as they ever were.

		This one is in the same area as Minders (on Gongti Bei Lu between Gongti Dong Lu and Sanlitun Nan Lu).
		For some reason this place tends to attract expatriate kids, so you see lots of nose-rings and baseball caps worn sideways, but it's still a nice place to go for a drink (the desserts are also pretty good).

		Down an alleyway on Sanlitun Street is a bar where you can buy American beer for three dollars a bottle and listen to a Philipino singer belt out Bye Bye Miss American Pie so perfectly that if you close your eyes you'd swear it was the record.
		The hutongs are being replaced by wide streets lined with white-tiled highrises, and the rickshaws are being replaced by Japanese taxis.

		The taxi will usually want to drop you off at the entrance to Bar Street (Sanlitun Lu) which is at the south of the map.
		To walk to the top of this map will take about 10 minutes if you walk quickly.
