At the time Sanok became the seat of an administrative unit referred to as the Land of Sanok which formed a part of Russian Province and encompassed areas: from the springs of the San river in south and east directions to Błażowa, in the south and Krosno in the west.
During the revolution of 1848 the National Council of Sanok District arose in Sanok and the National Guard of Sanok Land was organized.
Until 22 June 1941 Sanok was a border town as the national border between the part of Poland occupied by Nazis and the USSR ran along the river In 1940 organising a network of Polish underground military forces started.

Sanok is first mentioned in about 1150, when, according to the Ipatiivs'kyj Chronicle, it was occupied by King Geiza (S note: of Hungary).
The lands of the Sanok region then became a part of the Ruthenian province (Ruskie Wojewodstwo) and are subsequently always referred to in official documents as "the Ruthenian land" (terra Rusiae).
In the Sanok region over 160 villages, which had previously been chartered on the basis of Ruthenian or German law, were transferred to the status of Walachian law during the 16th and 17th centuries.

Also if I were you I would start my search in Sanok or Brzozow by just going to any church and asking which church could have any info - since churches keep all baptism records as well as marriage records also may know about death certificates and places of burial...
Sanok and South of Sanok you have a mtn range called Bieszczady - Bears are more common here then any other place.

With the exception of the San river basin, the so-called Podole Sanockie ["Sanok depression"] and the valleys on the Wislok, it is a hilly and wooded country, watered by numerous tributaries of both those rivers.
The main lines of communication are the cross-country and the Przemysl - Lupkowska railways, which merge southeast of Sanok in Zagorz.
In addition paved highways extend from Sanok: southward by the valley of the San and Oslawa to the Hungarian border, east by the San valley along the right bank southward and finally through the mountains to Tyrawa Woloska, from Zagorz do Lisko, and from Sanok west to Rymanow.

Located today in the Sanok (in Ukrainian, Sianik) region of southeastern Poland in the foothills of the fabled Carpathian mountains ("Karpati"), the majority of its original settlers were known as "Rusyny", "Rusnaky", "Ruthenians" and "Lemkos" (Lemkowie).
The region itself is referred to as the "Sanok lands" (the San River runs throughout the area) in original Polish civil documents from the 15th century, or "Lemkovyna" ("Lemkivshchyna") by Ukrainians and Carpatho-Rusyns.
In the late 10th century, Kievan-Rus finally secured the Sanok lands for itself and their inhabitants accepted Eastern Orthodox Christianity while the Poles in the West became Roman Catholic.
