BOTTLENECK: The Santa Ana (I-5) Freeway narrows from 10 lanes to six lanes as it approaches the Los Angeles County line.
The agency also opted to use $30 million in federal funding that was earmarked for a $300 million widening of the Garden Grove (22) and San Diego (I-405) freeways, between Valley View Street and the San Gabriel River (I-605) Freeway.
The freeway was built in the late 1950s to handle about 115,000 vehicles a day.
