Lualhati said Villar, who is facing robbery-slay charges for the death of four Santa Catalina municipal employees in May last year, was placed under disciplinary action and sanctioned for his involvement in illegal activities, prompting him to defect to the CPP-NPA.
Negros Oriental police director Drusillo Bolodo said the group of Villar also engaged in cattle-rustling activities in the hinterland areas of Santa Catalina and Siaton towns.

Negros Oriental Governor George Arnaiz said an augmentation force composed of Army soldiers and policemen were deployed last week near the geothermal plants in Valencia.
Mayors of five municipalities in the Negros province frequented by NPA rebels have also pledged logistical support to the Army and the police in their operation against the insurgents.
The Army and police officials informed the local officials that the NPA rebels were frequenting the hinterlands of Santa Catalina, Siaton, Zamboanguita, Valencia and Sibulan towns.

Three suspected New People's Army members were reportedly killed and several others injured in an encounter with soldiers of the 66th Infantry Battalion in Guihulngan, Negros Oriental, the military reported yesterday.
Linantungan, Guihulngan, which is near the boundary of Isabela, Negros Occidental, took place between a team of soldiers led by Sgt. Disipulo Romano and about 28 New People's Army guerillas.
Picar said the retrieval of either dead or injured rebels was hampered by sporadic sniper fire from uninjured guerillas who stood their grounds, to delay the arrival of reinforcing soldiers.

He called for an emergency meeting with the members of the provincial disaster coordinating council to discuss the matter and possible financial assistance to the families of the victims.

Rosal said he turned down the request and as a consequence the NPA burned some of the firm’s heavy equipment twice—on January 20, 2004, in Santa Catalina town in Negros Oriental, and on April 25, 2005, in San Andres town in Catanduanes.
As the NPA sees it, a revolutionary tax is charge on a business or economic activity in areas under the communists’ alleged control and influence.
