The following document was distributed by the Santa Rosa Police at a press conference April 21, 2000 following the release of the report of the California Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
The Santa Rosa Police Department offers this as a summary of activities and accomplishments undertaken since the community forum hosted by the California State Committee to the United States Civil Rights Commission on February 20, 1998, and the public hearing hosted by the Santa Rosa City Council on November 3rd, 1998.
As indicated above the department has assisted in the establishment of a multi-cultural center and an advisory board.  The first president of the multi-cultural board is a Santa Rosa police officer, who is a beat officer in a high-crime, low-income neighborhood characterized by a very diverse population.

 Santa Rosa, New Mexico : City of Lakes
On April 27th the City of Santa Rosa, the Parks and Recreation Department, and the 3 Kindergarten Classes at Santa Rosa Elementary School celebrated Earth Day with the planting of four12 to14 foot tall new trees at the south entrance to Park Lake.
As new sidewalks, street lights, and fiber-optic lines were placed in the area, all of the existing trees, grass and plants at the south boundary to the park were removed.
Assisting the kindergartens in planting their adopted trees were Santa Rosa Mayor and State Representative Joseph Campos, City Councilman Rudy Sanchez, Community Development Tim Dodge and Maxine Rivera, Chief of Police Jesus Roybal, Tourism Richard Delgado and Lucy Flores, Streets Charles Garcia, Parks Eddie Salazar, Jerry Campos, and Joe Abeyta.

An owner is not required to inquire of the department whether the prospective driver possesses a valid driver' s license.
However, the introduction to the appellants' opening brief states: "This is an appeal by the City of Santa Rosa from the judgment of the Superior Court of Sonoma County in a mandamus proceeding.
The Department of Motor Vehicles estimates that 75 percent of all drivers whose driving privilege has been withdrawn continue to drive regardless of the law.

The Grand Jury received several citizen complaints regarding the performance of the Sonoma County Sheriffs Department and the Santa Rosa Police Department.
Citizens are not informed of their right to appeal should they not agree with the findings of the internal investigation brought about by their complaints.
While investigating a complaint against the Santa Rosa Police Department for brutality, the Grand Jury requested a Medical Booking Report (a description of the physical condition of a detainee upon intake), from the Main Adult Detention Facility in August 1996, and September 1996.

Santa Rosa Fire Department has responded to medical aid calls and provided injured or ill persons with care for over 50 years.
Implementation of paramedic service by Santa Rosa Fire Department is the result of a public-private partnership between the City of Santa Rosa and American Medical Response (AMR), which operates Sonoma Life Support ambulance service in Sonoma County.
Under an agreement approved by the Santa Rosa City Council in June, AMR is underwriting the costs associated with upgrading the two engine companies to paramedic level.

 Petaluma residents charged in home robbery
Two Petaluma residents and three other people were arrested on Sept. 5 for allegedly forcing their way into a Santa Rosa home and assaulting the occupant, said Lt. Jerry Briggs of the Santa Rosa Police Department.
Ryan Hall, 21, and Tiffany Lynn Marie Jones, 18, both of Petaluma, and Kevin Brown, 21, of Rodeo and two 17-year-old boys from Rohnert Park were arrested in the incident, which occurred in the 1400 block of North Street.
Santa Rosa police later located five suspects in a vehicle fitting the description of the getaway vehicle, and found guns, marijuana and evidence linking the suspects to the robbery, Briggs said.

Lynn Woolsey helped the Santa Rosa Fire Department receive a grant for $97,450 to train and equip firefighters in the line of duty.
According to the Santa Rosa Fire Department, the funds will help prepare firefighters for RIT duties by purchasing additional radio communication equipment.
The $97,450 that Rep. Woolsey secured from the Department of Homeland Security Fire Grant Program is in addition to the $29 million that she brought home to Sonoma and Marin Counties from the FY05 Omnibus Appropriations Conference Report.

 Safe Schools
The Santa Rosa School District receives a categorical funding from the state that is called Safe School Funds.
It is through the use of these funds that the district provides the School Resource Officer Program in all middle and high schools and some elementary schools of the district in partnership with the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Department and the Gulf Breeze Police Department.
This program provides officers who work on-site at the schools to assist in providing a safer school environment and also to provide educational experiences through interaction in classes with students.
