Santos Benigno Laciar (born January 31, 1959), from Huiina Renanco, Córdoba, Argentina, known familiarly as Santos Laciar and nicknamed Falucho, was considered by many to be one of the best World Flyweight champions in history.
Some might say that Laciar exemplifies the problem many fighters in the lower weight divisions have faced throughout the years: despite their fame and success during their time as champions, they tend to be forgotten by the public after they retire, unlike boxerss who won titles at the higher divisions.
Laciar kept on boxing and reeled off eight more straight wins, but on October 8, 1988, he was outpointed by Juan Carazo in Caguas, Puerto Rico, by a decision in 12 rounds.

The first six, Humberto "Chiquita" Gonzalez, Jung Koo Chang, Sot Chitalada, Santos Laciar, Yuri Arbachakov and Jiro Watanabe, all have one thing in common: they are all fighters who piled up big numbers but who received relatively little recognition from casual American sports fans because they campaigned in the lowest weight classes.
Cuts were a recurring problem for Roman, and they cost him the championship against Laciar in their second fight in France.
Perhaps Sot Chitalada, Santos Laciar and Yuri Arbachakov could hear the cheers as they receive their Hall of Fame rings.

His career seemingly over, he quickly recovered from those back to back losses and began winning again, but this time as a Flyweight.
By the end of 1984, he was ranked number one by the WBA among Flyweights, and on December 8 of that year, he challenged world Flyweight champion Santos Laciar of Argentina at Buenos Aires' legendary Luna Park.
Zapata lost a 15 round decision that night, but in 1986, after Laciar had vacated the crown, the WBA gave him a second chance, and he beat Alonzo Gonzalez to win the WBA world Flyweight championship.

He was too small for Pete Herman, they say, and too old for Pancho Villa.
He is one of the top ten flies all time, but Miguel Canto was better, Pascual Perez was better, Fidel laBarba was better, Mark Johnson was better, Ricardo Lopez was better, and Santos Laciar and Hilario Zapata were probably better.
There is nothing about this little guy not to like, but he was NOT the greatest fly of all time.
