Sanuki Province - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sanuki (讃岐国; -no kuni) was an old province of Japan on the island of Shikoku, with the same boundaries as modern Kagawa Prefecture.
In the Sengoku period Sanuki was ruled by the Miyoshi clan.
In the Edo Period Sanuki was divided into five; three han in Takamatsu, Marugame, Tadotsu, the Shogun's direct holding and a part of Tsuyama han whose mainland was on Honshu.

 The Justice Chronicle No. 179
According to the verdict, Sanuki produced leaflets that were defamatory to the Soka Gakkai, using photographs printed in the Gakkai's periodical Seikyo Graphic without permission, altering them in a malicious manner and distributing them through a group named "The Society To Protect Religion and Ideology" around May 2001.
Upon concluding that the photographs taken by Seikyo Shimbun newspaper were protected by copyright, this verdict clearly concludes that Sanuki, who misused the photographs in question to produce defamatory leaflets, is indeed liable for violating that copyright, and that Okusa, the head of Myokanko, was involved.
In the past, Sanuki and others have produced and distributed leaflets defamatory to the Soka Gakkai during times of national elections, but I think this verdict is especially appropriate in that the judgment passed was strict in establishing that Myokanko had planned the acts and responsibility extended all the way to Nichiren Shoshu.

AR-News: Letters needed to stop DAT in Japan
Background: Sanuki City, located about 500 km southwest from Tokyo in Kagawa prefecture, planned to proceed with a "dolphin healing center" project using dolphins from the drive fishery in Taiji.
On March 26, 2004, the dolphin was moved to Sanuki and put into a special sea pen there.
When Sanuki City decided to stop the "Dolphin Healing Center" project and not include it in the 2004 fiscal year budget one of the reasons was that the Seto Inland Sea, where the facilities are located, is not suitable for the dolphins' health.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Shi-Koku
The name Shi-koku signifies "Four Kingdoms", the island having been divided, from ancient times, into the four provinces of: Awa, in the east; Sanuki, in the north-east; Tyo, in the north-west; and Tosa, in the south.
In 1868 at the Restoration of Japan the names of these four provinces, as of all others in the empire, were changed, and the island is now divided into the four prefectures of: Tokushima-Ken (formerly Awa), Kagawa-Ken (Sanuki), Ehime-Ken (Tyo), and Kochi-Ken (Tosa).
The proportion of inhabitants to the square mile for the island is 176; in the Prefecture of Kagawa it rises to 418, a higher figure than in any other prefecture of Japan.

In referring to Okusa′s legal liability, the ruling then focused on the fact that the time period in which the leaflets were produced and distributed immediately preceded the Tokyo Assembly elections held that June and the House of Councilors elections held that July.
Upon concluding that the photographs taken by Seikyo Shinbun newspaper were protected by copyright, this verdict clearly concludes that Sanuki, who misused the photographs in question to produce defamatory leaflets, is indeed liable for violating that copyright, and that Okusa, the head of Myokanko, was involved.

Later, in the Edo Period (1603-1867), the Sanuki area prospered around Sanuki Kame Castle, which some historical documents actually suggest predates the Tokugawa Shogunate.
Like the castle, though, the Sanuki area's historical identity was diminished when it merged into Futtsu City in 1971.
