Sappi Limited NYSE: SPP is a South African pulp and paper company based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Sappi got its start in December 1936 as South African Pulp and Paper Industries Limited.
In 2002 Sappi purchased Potlatch Corporation's coated fine paper business and its pulp and paper mill in Cloquet, Minnesota and its coating mill in Brainerd, Minnesota.

Sappi said industry shipments of coated wood-free paper for the first quarter were 13 percent lower than a year earlier in the United States, and one percent lower in Europe.

Sappi, the largest magazine paper producer in the world, reported a net loss of $0,77 a share as well as a headline loss of $0,04 a share for the quarter ended last month.
It would cost Sappi $31m in the fourth quarter, and a related inventory reduction exercise at Muskegon was expected to result in manufacturing overheads under-recovery of about $30m in the fourth quarter.
Sappi said wood, energy and chemical input costs combined rose $100m in the year to date, compared with the same period last year.
