The Soen Station building, which is based on mulberry trees as a design theme and from which the place name "Soen" (a mulberry garden) was derived, is a familiar landmark of the town, and the design of the Nishi 16-Chome green path alongside the station as well as the station plaza are to be unified.
The plaza is popular with local shoppers and station users, with its solar-powered clock tower, a symbol of the plaza, standing in the center, and lavender plants have been planted in the flowerbeds by members of the neighborhood association.
Since the surrounding road of the station was constructed by interlocking blocks and natural stones, the maintenance of the station is fixed aiming at harmony with circumference environment and making the station become a local symbol and central part.

Sapporo is one of the few locations in Japan that you can actually find things by their addresses.
The exit station had a tunnel that led west and was lined with pictures of various animals on floor tiles, as there is a zoo in Maruyama Kooen (park).
Back through the train station we tried to find Molly some snacks to tide her over for dinner as we didn't eat lunch, and it was already 4PM (and DARK I might add).

Famous throughout the world, Sapporo beer was brewed in this handsome brick factory from 1876 to 2003; today, the Sapporo Beer Company is the third-largest beer producer in Japan.

The sea and the water had nurtured this vast piece of land for some time, but then was my first real realization of Hokkaido’s ties to the sea, right at the waterfront.
