Sarah Lawrence College eliminates SAT requirement - News
Sarah Lawrence College has used the addition of a student essay in the writing section of the new 2005 SATs as a reason to take a stand against requiring the test for admission, but whether this is the beginning of a national trend has yet to be revealed.
Thyra Briggs, dean of admissions at Sarah Lawrence, said that the initial decision to no longer require any standardized testing, beginning with the students that will apply next year, was based on the fact that the new test will require even more preparation than the large amount of time students already commit.
The college uses the test so little now as a factor in admissions and has considered eliminating the requirement for such a long time, Briggs said, that it was the addition of the writing sample that sealed their decision.
