The siege of Sarajevo was the longest siege in the history of modern warfare.
Sarajevo's metro-area population in 2002 was around 401,000, which was 20,000 less than the population of the city itself in 1991.
With its current growth and reconstruction, Sarajevo may one day in the not so distant future return to its late 1980s form and is clearly on the fast track to recovery, but the scars of the siege of Sarajevo on its history may never fully disappear.

Bosnia was first mentioned by name in the Middle Ages and the area which would eventually encompass Sarajevo was known as Vhrbosna.
Sarajevo was first put on the world map in 1914 as the site where Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip assassinated the heir to the Austrian throne and precipitated World War I. Bosnians of Croatian origin tended to side with Austria-Hungary while Bosnians of Serbian origin were more sympathetic towards Princip's wish to unite with Serbia.
Although Bosnia was one of the poorer of the Yugoslav republics, Sarajevo developed into one of the most vibrant cultural and intellectual centers of the country.

The Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia is currently dealing with more than 200 cases of alleged war crimes from the war of 1991-1995, involving more than 1,400 persons suspected of having committed genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes.
Despite extensive judicial reforms in Bosnia, the administration of justice in the country's 67 courts continues to be the subject of criticism mainly because of undue delays.
UNC provost Joan Lorden said that the Framework Agreement signed on Tuesday with the Canton Sarajevo Ministry of Education and Science specifies the framework cooperation between the two universities, while the Agreement on cooperation with the Institute signed today, is the first agreement within that Framework Contract.

Dont take this as critisicm because it is not but i believe that Sarajevo needs to get rid of these houses in the hill, just eliminate them and build highrises as a replacement.
A european modern city such as sarajevo cannot have these tiny houses in the downtown area being so visible.
In my opinion Sarajevo shouldn't build so much modern high-rises, simply because that is not Sarajevo...
