Selby officials will soon apply for city permits to build the herbarium -- where the dried plants are kept -- and to convert a nearby two-car garage into storage for 25,000 preserved orchids, said Nan Summers, director of marketing and communications.
Selby officials plan to build a new herbarium and lab on the gardens' 15-acre campus over the next few months.
The samples are dried or preserved in alcohol, and are the backbone of the research work done at the gardens.
