Schumer said Saratoga, Warren, Washington and Essex Counties could receive almost $2.3 million if the bill is approved by the House and signed into law by the President.
Saratoga County expects to spend about $19.2 million on Medicaid assistance in 2002 while running a shortfall of about $1million.
In Saratoga County, local Medicaid costs increased 129 percent from 1990 to 2001; in Warren, they went up by 154 percent; in Washington by 133 percent; in Essex by 70 percent.

SARATOGA SPRINGS -- A survey by The Adirondack Tobacco Free Network on Phila Street shows that most Saratoga County residents don't use tobacco products, allow smoking in their homes or spend time in places where people smoke.
About 70 percent of the 250 people surveyed in Saratoga County supported the Clean Indoor Air Act, while an overwhelming 95 percent said they were aware of the legislation, the survey showed.
Stonecash speculated Saratoga County's heightened awareness of the Clean Indoor Air Act is due to a better educated and informed population.
