Saratoga Springs, NY is home to one of the most popular horse racetracks in the country.
In 1864, the Travers Stakes was first run as a tribute to William Travers, the president of the racing association.
Saratoga continued in grand style until 1911 when it was forced to close for two seasons because of a law that had been passed making oral betting illegal.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Rachelle Davis, a student at Saratoga High School, and Jeff Davis, a student at Cuesta Junior College in San Luis Obispo.
Saratoga resident Kuros Tabari, a Los Gatos plastic surgeon, died of respiratory failure March 4.

Touch Gold, whose continuing foot problems moved trainer David Hofmans to withdraw him from consideration as a starter in the Grade I Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course next Saturday, will be returning to Hofmans' care Monday to be prepared for the possibility of running in the $1-million Pegasus Handicap September 20 at The Meadowlands.

Theconfidenceman is the second six-length maiden special two-year-old winner at Belmont this summer sired from the first crop of 1998 New York-Bred Horse of the Year and Champion Two-Year-Old Male Incurable Optimist, who in a two-month span won open turf stakes at Meadowlands, Belmont, and Hollywood Park.
The latter was a stakes winner in 2002 and has earned $210,788, but Flying to Finish beat her by three-quarters of a length while spotting her five pounds.

The son of El Prado was the talk of Saratoga in 2002 following his victories in the Jim Dandy and Travers Stakes for Hall of Fame connections Bobby Frankel and Jerry Bailey.
