Earlier SPDP President Datuk William Mawan said although SPDP was multi-racial by definition, it was essentially a rural-based party with a large Dayak base and mindful of their problems and aspirations, especially as they formed the majority of party members.
Mawan, who is also Sarawak Social Development and Urbanization Minister, said that SPDP was taking the initiative to organise, jointly with the PRS, an economic conference soon to address some of the major challenges and opportunities faced by the community today.
As a rural-based party, he said SPDP fully supported the implementation of the Native Customary Rights (NCR) land development programme in the rural areas by wooing NCR landowners to respond to the government's call to develop it into large-scale oil palm plantations, in joint venture with investors.
