The Turk elements in Sarmat culture and life is perfectly illustrated by the findings on Southern Bug, in the burials of I century.
One of them was a little sculpture of a Sarmat sitting in the Asian manner, with crossed legs, in a quilted gown, with slanting eyes and flat nose.
Many elements of Scythian and Sarmat clothes were made of various felts, which were used everywhere in the life of these tribes, and now felt elements are very important in the traditional Karachai-Balkarian clothes and household.

The contacts between Sarmats and Caucasians are traced from the V-VI centuries A.D. But their relations were unstable due to the remoteness of the tribes’ habitation.

The jewellery found at the burial site testifies to the nobility of the woman buried there – golden chains, an amulet-pendant in the form of two griffins and earrings all are in fine condition - specialists have confirmed.
The findings endorse scientists’ hypothesis that the Sarmats weren’t isolated, but had close trade links with Greece and other countries and were also a go-between linking the West and the East.
However, the Sarmat burial place is not the sole discovery of Kazakhstani archeologists this summer as traces of the site of an ancient settlement were found near the burial mound of the noble woman.
