Although due for replacement by the oubreak of World War II, they saw some active service pending the introduction of the Lerwick.
In 1938 five Londons were equipped with auxiliary fuel tanks for a cruise to Australia to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the State of New South Wales.

The two Open Call meetings held in London on 10th and 24th May were attended by about 50 people in total, including artists, campaigners, journalists and arts managers.
On 22nd March 2005 at City Hall, London, the Remember Saro-Wiwa coalition launched the Open Call for Ideas, the deadline for which is 30th June.
It will have the ability to be toured to up to six locations in London during 2006/7, while at the same time planning and securing its permanent home for installation in 2007/8.

LONDON - The Royal Dutch/Shell Group, the world's largest international oil company, came under attack today from environmental and human rights activists for its activities in Peru and Nigeria, at the same time as the company prepares to fend off a shareholder resolution critical of its policies at its annual meeting tomorrow.
At its annual general meeting today in London Shell will be under pressure from church pension funds and Pirc, the U.K. investment advisory service which holds 12 percent of Shell's stock, to clarify its commitment to environmental protection and human rights.

The Saro London Flying Boat entered service with 201 Sqn from mid 1936 and on 23rd July '36 the Squadron was presented with its official Squadron crest, approved by King Edward VIII.
At the outbreak of War, 201 was equipped with Saro London Mk2 Flying Boats and operated from the Depot ship "Manela" at Sullom Voe.
It was inaugurated on 26th May 1939 when the Commanding Officer and a crew of No 201 Flying Boat Sqn, in a Saro London aircraft, visited St Peter Port, Guernsey.

LONDON (Reuters) - London mayor Ken Livingstone will launch an initiative to create a memorial work of art for hanged writer and activist Ken Saro-Wiwa, ahead of the 10th anniversary of the Nigerian's death.
Saro-Wiwa campaigned for the rights of the Ogoni people in Nigeria, whose land was damaged by oil exploration.
Entrants are only restricted in the logistical requirements for their creations, so that the memorial can be easily transported, a spokesman said.

Shell denies all wrongdoing and is appealing on a jurisdictional technicality to stop the lawsuit from being heard.
Shell is contending in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals in New York that the U.S. does not have jurisdiction for this case.
On October 31, 1995, Ken Saro Wiwa was sentenced to death, along with eight of his co-defendents.

The bus is sculptor Sokari Douglas Camp's response to a competition for a 'living memorial' to mark the 10th anniversary of the state hangings of Saro-Wiwa and eight colleagues following their campaign against the environmental impact of oil companies in the Niger Delta.
Douglas Camp, who was born in the delta and now lives in south London, said: 'I would like to make a sculpture that is like a vehicle, the yellow buses in Lagos, or similar to the trucks that travel laden with goods from farms to the cities or the campaign buses that some politicians use.
A judging panel will make its decision on 9 November, the eve of the anniversary, and the mobile memorial will go on display at different locations around London next year.

It seeks the release of men and women detained anywhere because of their beliefs, colour, sex ethnic origin, language or religious creed, provided they have not used or advocated violence.
Although accused of inciting youths to murder the four Ogoni leaders on 21 May 1994, it is not clear whether he has been formally charged.

The Squadron had played a part in this historical event, a Squadron London, from Gibraltar, overflew Oran on the 3rd July 1940 and provided the aerial reconnaissance photographs that enabled the location of numerous French ships to be plotted prior to the bombardment.
Only one London successfully attacked and disabled a submarine, this was K5913, piloted by Flt Lt Eagleton.
They spotted and depth charged an Italian submarine, forcing it to the surface where it was captured by a Royal Navy destroyer.

Shortly after the outbreak of war he was attached to No 240 Squadron, equipped with the bi-plane Saro London flying boat and based on the Shetlands.

I didn`t know about the Gloster Gladiator that had taken off in pursuit, but this was probably a 10 Group Fighter Unit that were based at Sumburgh.
Research is still on-going on this London for a book on accidents on and around the Isles & Hebrides.

With the closeness of the Royal Air Force experimental establishments several new types took part in the day including a Handley Page Harrow, Bristol Blenheim, Vickers Wellesley and Westland Lysander which all flew over from Martlesham Heath and landed.
The M.A.E.E. at Felixstowe sent a Saro London, Supermarine Scapa and Short Sunderland.
Other RAF aircraft that took part included 3 Gloster Gladiators which performed aerobatics and the new Vickers Wellingtons from No.9 Squadron at Stradishall.
