Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Sangh organises itself hierarchically, with a single individual, the sarsanghachalak, directing it.
The position is decided by appointment, with each sarsanghachalak appointing his successor.
The current sarsanghachalak of RSS is K.S. Sudarshan.

 New twist to BJP-RSS controversy
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief K S Sudershan has lent a new twist to the controversy over his advice to Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Kishenchand Advani to retire by hinting that all decisions in the organisation are made by consensus.
Sudershan said the RSS followed the tradition laid down by the first Sarsanghachalak [as the RSS chief is known], Dr Keshav Hedgewar of making all important decisions by consensus.
Sudershan did not name anyone or did not refer to the recent controversy over his remarks about Vajpayee and Advani, but Sangh watchers say the allusion was pretty clear -- the RSS wants a change in the top echelons of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

At the RSS Pratinidhi Sabha (general assembly) that began today in Nagpur, Dr Rajendra Thakur made a brief announcement that due to his ill-health he was incapable of discharging his duties and was therefore handing over charge to sahsarkaryavah (joint general secretary) Sudarshan.
Under the circumstances, said Thakur, popularly called Rajju Bhayya in the RSS, the most suitable person for the post was K S Sudarshan (whose initials in the Devanagari script translate into K C Sudarshan).
Then, Thakur wrapped a shawl round Sudarshan, signifying that Sudarshan was henceforth the sarsanghachalak (it loosely translates as 'chief motivator').

On June 19, while addressing a gathering of RSS activists in Lucknow on “Hindu Saamrajya Dinostav”, Sudarshan lauded the late Prime Minister for dismembering Pakistan in 1971 and described her as a “leader of guts”.
The Congress sought to deflect the debate on Sudarshan’s attack on Jawaharlal Nehru, who the sarsanghachalak alleged was a “product of western culture” and was made the first Prime Minister of India because the British thought he would “protect their interests”.
The party’s spokesperson, Anand Sharma, told reporters: “Mrs Indira Gandhi is acknowledged to be one of the strongest leaders of this country by history, by her generation, by the present generation, by future generations and by posterity.”
