Satchel is a band from Seattle, featuring Shawn Smith, Regan Hagar, and Mike Berg.
As of late, they have been folded into Brad and do not perform or record as Satchel any longer, although Brad just released an album of unreleased tracks from both Satchel and Brad called, appropriately, Brad vs. Satchel.

All bands need to grow and change, but some firm direction has to be set, and time has to be spent getting the new concept ready to go to the fans.
Bands getting their start in the industry could be told a million times that lyrics need to be either creative, completely unintelligible (but adding to harmony), or nonexistant to make an impact on an experienced, discerning listener, but many bands would still write songs like these.

The band sucks its influences dry and brings sweat and tears to its listeners by taking the best of 70s easy-listening and the heaviest of 70s rock, tempering it with sweet funk and high fusion.
Opening band Pond's goofy chic is contagious and the Portland boys are engaging songwriters.
It was nice to see a major-label band such as Brad give the opening slot to the good group Pond, who may have sold only 12 records but writes wonderful songs.

For those of you that are not familiar with the band, the members are heavy hitters in the Northwest music scene - Shawn Smith (also of Pigeonhed, Satchel, and the Twilight Singers) on vocals, Stone Gossard (of Pearl Jam) on guitar, and Regan Hagar (of Malfunkshun and Satchel) on drums.
The band claims there is nothing more than coincidence connecting this guy with the fact that they decided to name their band Brad.
Brad, in other words, was precisely the sort of band that could have easily withered on the vine, never to be heard from again, having produced two albums its members didn't have to be ashamed of.

Once upon a time Regan Hagar was in a band called Malfunkshun with Andrew Wood, and they just happened to share the same rehearsal space with another band called Green River, which included Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard.
Satchel bassist Mike Berg, who had been filling in for Jeremy Toback during Brad's tour has officially replaced Toback upon his amicable departure from Brad in full pursuit of a solo career.
On the surface, Brad may seem to be Satchel and "some dude named Stone." Well, not exactly, but, at this point, Brad could be anything given the Seattle conglomerates flowing through its veins-easily some sort of hybrid/offshoot of its incestuous ancestors.

Oneida-based band Lovebone was playing at a benefit last night and they had a few special guests join them onstage for a few songs.One of them turned out to be Wayne!
It was great and our Tribute to KISS was very well received.The other bands on the bill were awesome and we were honored to be included on this bill.
Kenny got up and performed with the band on 2 of their originals-"Living in Fear" and "Standing in the Rain." They got a tremendous response from the sold out crowd.

Glen Phillips is pretty awesome too..have heard some of his new stuff..as well as his last solo album and its all really great stuff.saw him in concert and he is extremely good, down to earth and easy to talk with.
Later this year there will be a record out called "Brad vs Satchel", A collection of songs recorded by the two bands during 1997 and 2001.
Some songs are taken from the 1997 Satchel "The Family" Sessions just after guitarist John Hoag left the band and when Shawn stepped in to take up the guitar duties.

SATCHEL played 'round locally and Gossard use to jam with them when he could.
I hadn't heard of the band SATCHEL or any of their material but given Gossard's background I was pleasantly surprised when I first heard "Interiors"..

David was subsequently invited to play with the Jerry Garcia Band at the Garden later that year, and played with the Dead one more time at Mardi Gras '95 in Oakland.
At some point Michael Nash (one of the creators of "Satchel") and Phil Lesh suggested to David the idea of his doing some versions of Dead songs, either with the Big Band or one of his other groups.
Brent was plucked from the ranks of BobWeir's extra-curricular band to join the Major League squad, and he brought a lot of good musicianship and new energy to the band, as well as a new palette of sounds.

This development with the internal factors of the band goes beyond what the press decides to brand the band; it filters through into the studio.
I mean, for me at least, there's so many bands I've discovered while getting their mp3s first and then I've gone and bought the records.
Pigeonhed isn't a "band" so you don't have to worry about whether or not the other guys have a part in the songs or not.
