P.O.D. - a Review of The Phantom Tollbooth
When "the boys from the South(town)", P.O.D., released their second major label album on September 11, 2001 (yes, really), few could have predicted that over the next year it would make them the best-selling artists on Atlantic Records.
Satellite is the album of 2001 - a no-holds barred outpouring of creativity that melts rock, reggae, rap and heavy metal into a pot and cranks up the quality temperature control.
What comes across more than anything is their respect for each other, as friends, musicians, and family (in the case of singer Sonny and drummer Wuv), and the fact that, at the heart of it all, they are music fans like the rest of us.

This album found the guys finding their true sound, a great blend of Alternative/Country that most have come to know as Crunch Rock.
The albums only bad thing, is that the brilliant track "Singular Girl" was cut at the last minute, however this two disc edition features the studio version at the end of the second disc.

The band Satellite was founded in 2000 by Wojtek Szadkowski (author and co author of nearly all of the music and lyrics by the band "Collage").
We now jump forward 16 years to this album by Satellite and, quite simply, this is a supreme example of symphonic progressive rock that recreates the halcyon days of "Script For A Jesters Tear" and the aforementioned "Clutching At Straws", even down to the art work by Mark Wilkinson.
Satellite are a fresh new “Neo-prog” band who for obvious reasons carry a very strong correlation to the music of Polish prog band Collage (aka 1994’s Moonshine).

The chorus has a powerful effect as it directly contrasts the angry vocals with the peaceful singing of "we are the youth nation" by lead singer Sonny, accompanied by a youth choir.

It wasn’t until September 11, 2001 that these rockers released the album that would take them to the highest point of their career (I don’t think there were many records being sold on the release date… for obvious reasons).
The style of Satellite and P.O.D. for that matter could be described as loud and upbeat.
The singles and hits that these guys released are pretty good (and I'll recommend the album for that reason), but some of the other material on the album isn’t so great.

While ostensibly falling somewhere between Aloha and The Album Leaf stylistically (not to mention the lazy Radiohead comparisons that are sure to come), Cities Are Temples has enough daring moments both musically and emotionally to firmly establish it as the first truly great album of 2005.
The members of Via Satellite, Drew Andrews (vocals, guitar, laptop, keyboards), Scott Mercado (vocals, guitar, sampler, keyboards), and Tim Reece (drums, samples), share the songwriting credits equally, with Andrews and Mercado penning the lyrics to the songs that each of them respectively sings.
