Sathya Sai Baba - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sathya Sai Baba (born Sathya Narayana Raju with the family name Ratnakaram, circa 1926-1929) is a popular, controversial Indian guru who has millions of followers and hundreds of Sathya Sai Baba groups in many countries.
When the boy Sathya Narayana Raju, born in or near the village Puttaparthi, was in his teens, he claimed to be the reincarnation of the fakir Sai Baba who was not well known in that area at that time.
Sathya Sai Baba can be seen in person performing what he claims are miracles daily in the form of materializations of small objects, for example jewelry such as bracelets, rings, watches and especially vibhuti (holy ash) and kum kum (the red-colored powder used by Hindus to make the ritual mark between the eyebrows).

The Sathya Sai Organisation and Interfaith Movement
It may sound strange but the SSO and Sai Baba himself, despite of claiming to play a key role in a future transformation of our planet into a better world, did not take part in any of those forums and have never mentioned them to their members and followers.
For example, one of the original resolutions of the VI World Conference of the SSO (1995) stated that the SSO should initiate joint service projects to play a leading role and to be an example for the other movements and organisations (see materials of the VI World Conference, clause 4 under the caption ‘Service’, p.11).
However after presenting these resolutions for Sai Baba blessing this resolution was corrected according to the directions given by Sai Baba: “The Sri Sathya Sai Organisation should not take help of any other religious or spiritual organisation in conducting the activities of the Sai Organisation.

Sathya Sai Organisation Divine Tool or Side Effect
The concept that the SSO is a sort of side effect of Sai Baba’s mission finds its justification in a fact that the SSO’s work often shows bad management and lack of co-operation, and its leaders are far from being the examples of those human values which are preached by Sai Baba.
Sai has resolved to transform the individual and society by promoting this mutual regeneration, by the action of one on the other; hence, the formation of this Organisation, and the establishment of its Units in all countries, for the sublimation of the human into the Divine.
Although Sai Baba does not hold any office in the SSO (in contrast with The Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust, where he apparently signs all the financial documents), he is considered as its spiritual leader.

The best and fullest independent analysis of the Sathya Sai Organisation is to be found in the recent and ongoing (2002) revelations by Robert Priddy, an ex-academic, a research writer, and a very well-known ex-devotee, as well as a prominent (and fearless) ex-SSO office-holder in Europe.
The SSO quickly became an important organisation with satellite National Organisations overseas and its conferences became part of the activities of the ashram.
After the auspicious beginning of the SSO came a period of very rapid expansion (for example of the ashrams), increased prosperity, and success, and with all this came the major changes in types of welfare work.

The SSO does not correct misinformation about itself, whether in its official pronouncements or when circulated by others, so long as the information seems to portray it in a good light, nor does it ever present any negative news about projects that failed or were flawed.
Almost needless to point out, but the Sai organisation nor anyone connected with it has never mentioned a single thing about any kind of difficulty or failure in the Rayalaseema Water project, not even when it had to be abandoned to AP State management.
