To what extent movie audiences in a large city are composed of children can only be approximated, as it seems there are no datea available on the number of half-rate or children’s tickets sold.
After watching a Saturday- or Sunday-afternoon movie crowd pour out of a neighborhood theater, one would be included to take more seriously the foregoing statement of the mnager.
But it must be borne in mind that Saturday and Sunday are especially convenient movie days for children and that there is a greater juvenile attendance at this time than at any other time of the week.

There was the Saturday afternoon movie time when young boys and girls seemed to find a romantic few hours holding hands, eating popcorn and watching some great musical, comedy, serious drama or historical action on the silver screen.
Even getting a job at the movie house was a sought after position, especially if you could be an usher and stand just inside the double doors leading into the Rialto Theater with a flashlight to direct people to seats in the darkness.
Even though movies and refreshments didn't cost an arm and a leg like they do today, we didn't have a lot to spend, so we all went to The Hive whenever it was open, which usually was three or four nights a week.

Even though I have to deal with commercials, I often wind up getting to see movies that I was either skeptical of or never heard of before, the movie this week was Interstate 60 and fell into the latter category.
I wish that Spawn had been here this weekend so he could have seen this movie with me. In lieu of that, however, I’ve put this movie to the top of the Netflix queue, in part so he can see it, but also so I can see what I missed from the edited version.
However, while only the first X-Men had been released when this movie came out, now, after two more, the X-Men comic is a little more noticeable than it may have been when I-60 was newly released.

Y'see, as a movie fan, as well as a comic fanboy, Kevin Smith is pretty much a god to me, every single one of his movies are entertaining, and he's probably the most consistent movie writer out there.
This movie is the brainchild of Mike Judge, of Beavis and Butthead fame.
The animation is amazing, and the storyline itself is something out of a bad 50's movie, but this movie works not only because it does things that can only be done in cartoons, but it also keeps it's head in the real world.

While there are some very gory parts, the very cool music will give you cues, but this movie is not all about blood and guts which is a refreshing thing, since it is has become a standard in similar types of movies.
A movie director hits bottom and to recover his career, he takes a computer simulation of a lady and inserts her in his movies.
The movie really kinda goes sour when it gets preachy, but if you are with some friends, I suggest you might want to rent it for a movie afternoon and have a comedy ready (Dazed and Confused, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back) for viewing afterward.

This is one hokey movie that should have been a direct-to-video release - or better yet, direct to an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (it could use something besides it's own cheesy dialog for entertainment).
It's supposed to be a throwback to the old Saturday afternoon B-movie thrillers with the silly special effects and the scenes where the audience says, "Oh, look at the spiders crawling on the model trucks".
The movie doesn't try to take itself too seriously (which is a good thing), but it's not scary, crazy, or campy enough to be a hilarious night at the movies.

I do remember this movie from 1987, and thank God I'm not the only one that remembers a key fact that this movie's release year of 1987 was WELL AFTER the initial He-Man craze of 1982-'85.
A cheap ass made for 5 year olds movie like this was dreadful for the image of any pre-teen back then, despite the fact that practically everyone secretly yearned to watch it.
Yes this movie is stupid beyond belief, but it's about He-Man and it's from the 80's.

I mean, any movie with minotaurs, griffins, talking lions and cyclops is pretty much gold with me, but when Swinton shows up for battle in a chariot pulled by polar bears, well, my heart burst with movie geek joy.

This movie sucks because it was slow and boring, starred an uninteresting protagonist with an unbelievable past, included extremely dull patients whose problems left me indifferent at best and pissed at worst, and certified it all with many a predictable ending.
At first I thought the movie was moving WAY too slowly, not to mention how drab it was, but somewhere along the line I began to care about the characters.
This movie was missing too many things I find important in a character-driven movie like this - like, caring about any of the characters at all would have been very nice.

IIRC, some movie packages which did not have marquee graphics included the "12:30 Star Movie" as well as the "Sunday Afternoon Movie" and the "Monday Movie Special".
This happened to be the closing of the 8 O'Clock movie.
I think that the reference to the news during the 8:00 movie bumper was due to the fact that this clip was shown after the conclusion of the 8:00 movie on that respective evening.

I had no idea what the movie was about except that it was not the romantic comedy my friend wanted me to see so that was good enough for me.

I agree the movie is visually compelling and the dancing scene near the beginning was absolutely wonderful.
While I appreciate the fact that the decision to make the movie pretty without using CGI, I still say there has to be a story in there that one can follow in order to make a movie entertaining.

So when the movie takes a break and tries to be serious and sincere, it doesn't work.
A lot of the crude humor was actually funny and the main character's conscience and willingness to accept the responsibility of a kid was commendable.
However, considering that the object of attention was a young child and that the movie is clearly marketed toward a younger audience, a preoccupation and constant references to "Hooters" was unfortunate and dialogue about smoking dope was totally inappropriate.

I found this on YouTube were it features a rare intro to the "Saturday Afternoon Movie" when it was on WABC-TV (Channel 7) back in 1986.
WOKR-TV (now WHAM-TV) in Syracuse, NY used to have that same intro, but it was used for WOKR-TV (Channel 13) "The Movies".
The video that they used to have was off of RNYN (Rochester New York News) site, but they took it down.
