Cast member Gilda Radner was briefly married to G.E. Smith, who later became the show's bandleader.
While a cast member, Aykroyd appeared as Elwood Blues from The Blues Brothers; McKean appeared as David St. Hubbins from This Is Spinal Tap in May 1984, hosted six months later, and became a cast member in 1994.

His casting as the news guy pretty much sums up the other reason (besides untalented cast and lame sketches) the show JTS...improper casting; Quinn IS funny as a stereotypical longshoreman type New Yorker, but he sucks as a "suit." Case in point, the "Brooklyn Santa" bit he did for a Christmas show.
Saturday night Live goes through it's periods of funniness and unfunniness but I think one of the funniest sketches was when they had Christopher Walken on pretending to be this gigalo-type character with a fake mustache.
Saturday Night Live has blown from the moment it first hit the airwaves, and seeing now is like being jabbed in both eyes with a pair of red hot letter openers.
