CVT issues have not been that many from what I have read on other sites though I think the V6 is preferable if you can handle the extra gas and cost.
From what I have read also, Saturn didn't have to "resort" to these V6 engines, it had a great 3.0L and these were received from a trade for transmissions with Honda.
