Saturn is finally entering the sport utility arena with the VUE (pronounced “view”), which is compact in size and intended to be carlike in personality.
One of the VUE’s special technological touches is a continuously variable transmission (CVT), similar to the one that’s been available on the Honda Civic for several years.
Saturn claims that the small CVT unit, called VTi and offered only with four-cylinder engines, delivers higher gas mileage than a four-speed-automatic transmission; the CVT’s gas mileage is 8 percent better.

The Vue's appeal stems in part from styling, which was critiqued by consumers early during the development process.
The lower-powered 3-liter V6 mated to a five-speed automatic that was in the 2003 Vue was rated at 19 miles a gallon in city driving and 25 mpg on the highway, according to the federal government.
Saturn engineers worked to reduce interior noise in the Vue, and the 2004 model is the best yet.

Preview: 2007 Saturn Vue Green Line - MSN Autos
Saturn General Manager Jill Lajdziak estimates the fuel economy of the Vue Green Line will be 27 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.
Saturn's estimate of 27/32 mpg for the new Vue compares with 36/31 mpg for the best-mileage SUV, which is the 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid with front-wheel drive and 33/29 mpg with all-wheel drive.
Because the Vue's electronics are old, they do not gather data that would tell a driver if he or she got 25 mpg or 27 mpg or 30 mpg on a trip, according to Larry Nitz, executive director of GM's global hybrid powertrains.

In the VUE, some character is provided by flared wheel openings, Audi-esque cutlines where the bumper fascias meet the body (okay, Olds and Saturn did this first, but it looks better on the A6), an upward sweeping indentation in the doors, and a hood that wraps over a bit into the fenders.
One area where the VUE promises to trump the CR-V is on the road.
The VUE still felt quite nimble for such a vehicle, but lean in turns was higher than I remembered from before.
