The town is in the northeast corner of Ulster County.
Saugerties was the home of the second Woodstock Music Festival, in 1994, following on the footsteps of the original Woodstock Festival (which it should be noted was actually held in Bethel, New York) of 1969.
The north town line is the border of Greene County, New York, and the east town line, marked by the Hudson River, is the border of Dutchess and Columbia counties.

The Town of Kingston is in the northeast part of Ulster County, north of the City of Kingston.
The town was formed by a patent granted in 1667 and its status as a town was reaffirmed in 1702.
In the town the population was spread out with 22.9% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 30.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who were 65 years of age or older.

The New York Historic House Trust held a ceremony to relight the lighthouse on September 19, 2002.
Formerly mounted at the end of the breakwater, the lighthouse was relocated to the grounds of the town hall in 1951.
In 2004 the town of Hastings began development of the area around the lighthouse as the Oneida River Lighthouse Park; plans include a small museum in the base of the tower.

The Albany Post Road, which ran from New York City to Albany, was the only road of significance; supplementing it were roads to the mills and the River landings.

New Construction Program administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), and received an incentive of $49,961 to help defray the costs of its energy efficiency efforts.
The Kiwanis Ice Rink is named after the Kiwanis Club of Saugerties which, in 1999, donated equipment necessary for the Town of Saugerties to open and operate an ice skating facility.
