Saugerties was the home of the second Woodstock Music Festival, in 1994, following on the footsteps of the original Woodstock Festival (which it should be noted was actually held in Bethel, New York) of 1969.
The north town line is the border of Greene County, New York, and the east town line, marked by the Hudson River, is the border of Dutchess and Columbia counties.
Saugerties -- The Village of Saugerties is located in the eastern part of the town on Route 9W.

 Saugerties Town Hall - History
On April 27, 1677, New York's Governor Andros signed an agreement with the Esopus Indian Kaelcop, chief of the Amorgarickakan Family, to purchase the land, which is now Saugerties.
Saugerties shared in the benefits offered by the river and the Esopus Creek, which flows into the Hudson providing docking facilities for passenger and commercial boats.
By 1830 the village warranted a steamboat line; a night boat for freight and one for passengers to New York City.
