Gvarv is famous for its apples, morels and sweet cherries (as is the whole Sauheradmunicipality).
The famous Norwegian painter Erik Werenskiold painted a number of his famous rustic landscapes, such as Telemarksjenter ("Girls from Telemark"), in the vicinity of Gvarv.

Anne Johnsdatter Glænde: She was born February 23, 1812 in Sauherad parish (Saude) by parents Jon Tolvsen Sauer and Ingeborg Olsdatter.
She moved from Sauherad to Gjerpen in 1837 and on April 12, 1841 she gives birth to a daughter "Anne Petrea".
The daughter is illegitemate and the father is given as Peter Gasmann, who also emigrated in 1843 on the "Salvator" with his parents.
The Evju Bygdetun in Sauherad is an interesting and lively local museum in mid- Telemark situated between the villages Gvarv (4 kilometres)and Bø (6 kilometres).
The Sauheradmunicipality has about 4, 400 inhabitants.
The Sauheradmunicipality is centrally located in Telemark between the towns Skien and Notodden and quite close to the 'Sommarland' amusement park in Bø(water activities with the biggest water half-pipe in Nothern Europe.) We strongly recommend a combined trip to 'Sommarland' and 'The Evju Bygdetun'.

The marriage in Bø would be in the microfilm copies of that parish's church records, the LDS library collection for Bø, Telemark are available for years as early as 1689.

Kjøstolf Tolfsen Bratsberg: He is reported to be born in Sauherad Nov 24, 1826 and found in the migration records for April 1837, when his father Tolf Nielsen Laikemoen, age 34 and wife Ingeborg Kiøstolfsdatter, age 34 moved from Sauherad parish to Gjerpen via Solum parish..
They had moved from Sauherad to Gjerpen, but had for a period lived in Solum parish, where the youngest child was born.
