		In the county the population is spread out with 27.90% under the age of 18, 6.30% from 18 to 24, 27.60% from 25 to 44, 22.90% from 45 to 64, and 15.30% who are 65 years of age or older.
		The median income for a household in the county is $42,173, and the median income for a family is $49,443.

		This influx of population was checked in 1871; not, however, because all the lands in the county was settled upon, but because one-half of it was claimed by two powerful railroad corporations, who were in dispute about their respective titles to the same; neither of which could under the circumstances sell.
		The Atchison & Nebraska proposition was carried in the county by a majority of the votes polled, and the amended Omaha proposition was favored in sixteen of the twenty-one precincts.

		HE FIRST settlement in Saunders County was in Clear Creek precinct in 1856, when Joseph Stambaugh, his wife and three children came to the county in a horse drawn covered wagon from Plattsmouth.
		Ashland had been a part of Cass County, but by legislative enactment a small portion of that county was detached and added to Saunders County, including the land on which Ashland stood.
		The last town on the Union Pacific within Saunders County is Valparaiso, not far from the Butler County line on the west and a short distance north of the Lancaster line, in the southwest corner of the county.
