		After the princely states were integrated to form Saurashtra state in 1948, a need was felt to amalgamate these banks and make them a state-owned bank was felt to serve as an instrument for developing the economy of the region.
		Thus, in 1960, the State Bank of Saurashtra joined the State Bank family as one of its fully owned subsidiaries so that its policies and activities could be directed to achieve the socio - economic objectives for which the State Bank of India itself was constituted.

		Ahmedabad, Sept 23: All fishing and shipping activities have been suspended in Gujarat ports, including Kandla and Mundra, following a cyclone alert sounded by the authorities across the coastal districts of Saurashtra and Kutch regions, official sources said here today.
		"We have sounded an alert in Kutch as this region alongwith some districts of Saurashtra is expected to fall in the path of cyclone, which is now about 280 kms south-west of Porbandar," Sanjay Dwivedi, District Collector of Kutch said.
		The cyclone is expected to hit the Gujarat Coast between Porbandar (in Saurashtra region) and Naliya (in Kutch)", he said.
