Reuzendinosaurus in Sahara gevonden   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)

Dr. W. J. Holland and the Sprawling Sauropods
In the lacertilia the greater trochanter is reduced in size and in some genera is practically obsolete; when present and articulated it looks backward, downward, inward.
In the sauropoda, as in ratite birds, the second trochanter is obsolescent or wholly obsolete.
A comparison of the head of the femur of the crawling reptiles of to-day with the femur of the sauropoda shows at a glance that in the latter the proximal end of the femur is more like that of birds than of recent lizards.

The sauropods (Try this link: Sauropoda) are the largest land animals of all time.
Some have been reported to weigh as much as 83 tons (see Fastovsky and Weishampel, 1996 - they report a maximum mass of 75,000 kg [82.7 tons]), however, a more conservative and realistic maximum weight is about 55 tons for the largest brachiosaurid.

GEOL 104 Lecture 21: Sauropodomorpha: Size matters
Name means "sauropod form"; Sauropoda means "lizard feet", even though their feet do not look much like lizard feet!
However, basal sauropodomorphs form a paraphyletic grade leading to the Sauropoda; this grade may include a true monophyletic Prosauropoda (Plateosauria and assorted related groups such as "riojasaurids", Melanorosauridae, and Anchisaurus).
Primitive sauropods are known from the Late Triassic, but sauropods do not become common until the Middle Jurassic.
