The Savannah College of Art and Design (often referred to as SCAD) — founded in 1978 by Paula S. Wallace, Richard Rowan, May Poetter and Paul Poetter — is an independent, accredited and nonprofit school dedicated to the visual and performing arts, design, the building arts and the history of art and architecture.
Shortly after opening, the Atlanta College of Art was acquired by SCAD for merger into the Atlanta campus to help the new college campus grow and give more opportunities to SCAD students with connections to the Woodruff Arts Center and the High Museum of Art on Peachtree Street in Atlanta.
SCAD is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), located in Savannah, was founded in 1978 by Paula S. Wallace, Richard Rowan, and May and Paul Poetter.
By 2004 SCAD had become the largest art and design school in the United States and, as of 2005, has an enrollment of nearly 7,000 students from all fifty states and around eighty foreign countries.
SCAD was the first art school in the country to have an athletics program and is now a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.

 New Georgia Encyclopedia: Savannah College of Art and Design, Architecture Program
SCAD architecture students established a chapter of the American Institute of Architectural Students by 1990 and a chapter of the architecture honor society, Tau Sigma Delta, in 1993.
First housed in the former Henry Street Elementary School, designed in 1892 by William Gibbons Preston and built by Gottfried Normann, the department moved in 1989 to Eichberg Hall.
In 1994 the college received the National Honor Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and in 1998 it received the American Institute of Architects Honor Award for Urban Design.

Savannah, GA The Jen Library at the Savannah College of Art and Design is certainly one of the most exquisite libraries on any college campus throughout the South.
In fact, Savannah is certainly one of the most exquisite towns in the South, so it is no surprise that this art school's library, which resides in a renovated department store, should be as artfully designed and aesthetically pleasing as the surrounding homes and shops.
Nonetheless, her research in Savannah and with the Jen Library led her to understand more about downtown revitalization, and the idea of shifting civic centers, which is all very relevant to the big box phenomenon.

The Savannah College of Art and Design, the largest art college in the U.S., plans to open a metro Atlanta campus that would begin offering classes in the fall of 2005.
Paula Wallace, president and co-founder of SCAD told the Atlanta Journal-Consititon that while it's too early to say how large the Atlanta student body would be, the school has been looking for between 100,000 and 200,000 square feet of space.
About 10 percent of the college's students are from the Atlanta area, and the school attracts students from all 50 states and more than 75 countries.

I could go to the Art Institute here in Houston if I wanted to but...lets face it getting a BFA at a good university may probably give me the schooling I need to be more succesful.
Keep in mind that Graphic Design and Illustration/Sequential art are programs seperate from the Computer Arts and so they are held at another large building with another set of labs, which is seperate from the gigantic building.
The school is kind of spread throughout the city of Savannah, so if you're looking for a unified college campus in a college town, you have the wrong school.
