		Savanne, or Savan, the northwestern subdivision of Charlotte Amalie, was established to provide housing for an increasing number of manumitted slaves or "free coloured," as they were called.
		Since Savanne was one of the most densely populated areas on the island, it attracted the attention of politicians, who stumped the area at election time wooing voters.
		Blacks of Savanne earned a living in conditions resembling servitude while the Whites of the commercial district flourished financially from the bustling trade of the town and its harbor.

		In both Savanne and Delmas, male participants seemed to take for granted a double standard that grants sexual freedom to men and denies women the right to question their partners' activity.
		Transcripts from Savanne indicated a greater tendency on the part of some men to use force, or at least forceful persuasion, with an unwilling partner.
		As in their response to women they suspected of infidelity, Savanne men were also more likely to condone or suggest violence in the case of a woman refusing to accept sexual contact.

	SAVANNE WIN MAURITIUS FA CUP
		Stevenson Hollingsworth scored a match winner early in the second half to steer Savanne SC to victory in the FA Cup in Mauritius with a 3-2 win over Faucon Flacq on Saturday.
		The victory came after Savanne were twice behind in the first half against the team led by Elvis Antoine, who is now also co-coach of the Mauritius national team.
		Savanne now qualify to play in continental club competition in next year’s African Confederation Cup.
