  SAVING SILVERMAN
Silverman's story focuses on three lifelong Seattle friends who, as shown in the first few minutes of the film, have gone from being nerdy kids to nerdy adults with kooky jobs.
Darren Silverman (Biggs) is the entertainment director at a local nursing home.
Wayne and J.D. know they need to do something drastic to save Darren from the devious dish, and hatch a plan to kidnap Judith, stage her death and fix Darren up with his old flame (Amanda Detmer), a shapely, soon-to-be-nun from a family of circus performers.

Saving Silverman was better than I expected it to be.
Saving Silverman is one of my favorite films to be put out in 2001.
"Saving Silverman" is effortlessly composed of crude humor and sex jokes that are just thrown into the script at will, without the least bit of story consistency at all.

Fessbeggle, for some reason, locked sights on Silverman and proceeded to change him from "one of the guys" with the trio of friends since high school into a responsible, high-society puppet of hers.
Silverman tried his best to break away from Fessbeggle and chime with Sandy, but Fessbeggle did her best to save face and destroy any chances of such a development.

Saving Silverman - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Saving Silverman is a 2001 comedy film, directed by Dennis Dugan.
Darren Silverman has been friends with Wayne and J.D. since high school, the three of them having formed a Neil Diamond cover band called Diamonds in the Rough.
In the end, Judith and Wayne hook up as well (after Wayne forces her to admit that she liked being held hostage), and J.D. comes to grips with the fact that he is gay and marries the coach.

Saving Silverman (2001): Jason Biggs, Amanda Peet, Jack Black, Steve Zahn - PopMatters Film Review
In Saving Silverman, Peet is again set against an array of moronic guys, but this time, she gets hers.
Saving Silverman proves there's nothing this girl won't do on camera, including being tasered in the butt, sprayed with beer, and dragged around like a sack of potatoes by Jack Black, not to mention karate-chopping R. Lee Ermey, and perhaps most courageously, licking Arby's Roast Beef Sauce off Steve Zahn's finger.
And so J.D. and Wayne embark on a plan to save their friend from a sure-to-be calamitous marriage: they kidnap Judith and set up Darren with the girl they know to be the love of his life, former cheerleader and trapeze artist, and current nun-in-training Sandy (Amanda Detmer, smooshed by a bus in Final Destination).

Saving Silverman | movies : ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
In ''Silverman,'' by contrast, the filmmakers aren't adept enough to distinguish playful pokes from vicious knifewounds, and the recipients of their pranks are actually, horribly demeaned.
There's a welcome place at the movies for good, dumb fun, but ''Saving Silverman'' is bad, dumb, and not as funny as it thinks it is, and it's important to make a distinction.
Which is why ''Saving Silverman'' got an F. Now, rather than wasting time on the message board telling me I stink, how about discussing what's the worst thing you've seen lately, and why.

 Saving Silverman - Movie Review
Saving Silverman is a film you pray for.
Saving Silverman is an often-funny farce -- and probably the best comedy we're going to see until the summer -- but it's a poor imitation of some much better movies, desperately longing to be Woody Allen while ending up as Adam Sandler.
Essentially a romantic comedy, Saving Silverman puts Jason Biggs in the unenviable role as Darren Silverman -- the straight man against crackups Steve Zahn and Jack Black, playing his two best friends since he was a wee lad.

From grade school (when they were all picked on), to high school (when Wayne played on the football squad, J.D. was the team's mascot and Darren was its star cheerleader), to today (rocking side by side in "Diamonds in the Rough", their Neil Diamond cover band), these guys have always stuck together.
In a desperate and hilarious last-ditch attempt to save their friend from Judith's grip - and after receiving some ill-advised help from their take-no-prisoners high school football coach - Wayne and J.D. kidnap Judith and fake her death, leaving Darren free to fall for Sandy.
Demonstrating cunning and kick-ass karate moves that leave her captors in the dust, Judith escapes and pulls Darren back under her control.

Believe it or not, but "Silverman" is actually a more mean-spirited and therefore funnier comedy than "Big Daddy", which got a little too cutesly-wutesy and ooey-gooey towards the end.

secured his annual nod with the charmless "Head Over Heels." And now along comes "Saving Silverman," a battle-of-the-sexes burlesque so idiotic, contrived and inept that there's almost no chance a worse movie will be released all year.
But even if "Saving Silverman" wasn't tactless (Peet's ridiculous wardrobe is designed to draw attention to her constant bralessness), arduous, irritating, unoriginal, blunderingly directed and desperately unfunny, it would still have the enormous drag of its loathsome cast of characters -- especially the leads.
Not only are Biggs and Peet entirely unsympathetic, but each has such a repulsive personality that you'll start to hope they'll each live the rest of their lives in solitary confinement, because you wouldn't wish these losers on anybody.

It's one thing for the whole to be less than the sum of its parts, but it's another thing for the whole to be downright awful.

The point is that if any part of you is a dude or craves dudeliness, in however ass-backward and supposedly ironic a fashion, you'll find moments of ecstasy in "Saving Silverman," one of those rare Hollywood gut-busters in which the funniest stuff isn't necessarily in the trailer.
Much of the soul and irrepressible cheer of "Saving Silverman" lies in the pairing of Jack Black and Steve Zahn as J.D. and Wayne, two incompetents on the far slope of their 20s who must fight the good fight to free their pal Darren Silverman (Jason Biggs) from the wrong woman.
Biggs, who soared to stardom with his role in "American Pie," is almost lost amid the antic frenzy of "Saving Silverman" as straight man Darren.
