Savitaipale is situated by Lake Kuolimojärvi, known for its fish, arctic char.
The history of the municipality is presented by the permanent exhibition at the Church Builders' Museum set up in honour of the workers who built the wooden churches, and the Hakamäki House Museum area which gives an impression of old rustic culture.
During the week, there is a national championship competition in church boat rowing for entrepreneurs, pedal car competition, theatre, music and a dance in the loft of a cow shed.

 Museums of South Karelia - Church Builders' Museum
Owned by the Savitaipale Regional History Association, the Church Builders’ Museum was founded in 1989.
The museum is housed in the bell tower standing next to the church of Savitaipale.
The museum is dedicated to the work of the famous church builders from Savitaipale, Juhana and Matti Salonen, and Taavetti Rahikainen; they are best known today as builders of churches incorporating a double cruciform design (kahtamoinen).

Savitaipaleen yläaste (Savitaipale Comprehensive School upper level or Savitaipale Secondary school) is a three- year obligatory school where pupils come after their six years in primary school.
Savitaipale Secondary School has been working since 1973 when there was a big change in whole school system in Finland and it is a part of the nine-year obligatory school in Finland.

He started to spend the summers in 1935 in Paimensaari in the district of Savitaipale after he had moved as an evacuee to Lappeenranta in 1948.
He also was a founder of the art school in Lappeenranta and was teaching there about 15 years.
