	Savuka - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Savuka was a band formed by English-born South African Johnny Clegg after the disbanding of his first band, Juluka.
		Savuka followed more of a Western pop rock style blended with Clegg's familiar, distinctive Zulu musical stylings, creating a unique sound that was something of a major departure from the old, more traditional Zulu sound of Juluka.
		Savuka released five studio albums: Third World Child, Cruel, Crazy Beautiful World", "Heat, Dust And Dreams", "Shadow Man", and "In My African Dream" (the latter being more of a best-of compilation, but still including a few previously unreleased tracks).

		Johnny Clegg had first come to prominence in his home country of South Africa as the white half of the legendary musical duo Juluka, who boldly broke down their country's social and cultural barriers with their eclectic, multilingual music.
		The remainder of the DVD consists of videos from both the Savuka and Juluka eras, some brief concert footage of Juluka, a pair of songs from post-Savuka live performances, and a brief interview from the late eighties where Clegg explains his musical history.
		As good as the concert performance on this DVD is, and as good as the live concert I saw from Clegg's recent American tour was, those shows are forced to compete with the memory of a night whose legend grows with each retelling.

	Clegg & Savuka Have Arisen
		This segregation of the airwaves has been a big problem for Clegg.
		Both of the bands he's been involved in, Juluka (Zulu for sweat), which broke up in 1984, and his current group, Savuka (which means "we have arisen"), have played a tradition-breaking hybrid of Zulu jive, South African folk music and international pop.
		In the 20-odd years he's been playing and recording, Clegg's music has helped break down the racially dictated musical barriers of South Africa.
