American gymnast Blaine Wilson accused Japanese judge Sawao Kato and Olympic gymnastics technical director Adrian Stoica of cheating after last-minute notification of reduced credit for a favoured US release move.
US team officials were told on Wednesday by Stoica and Kato, the high bar head judge, that the Stadler Hop Full would be scored lower than world championships in recent years by as much as two-tenths of a point.
After changing his high bar routine to add more difficulty and offset the change, Wilson fell on his new release move in men's qualifying on Saturday, and was so dizzy that he was unable to compete afterwards on the pommel horse.

Ron Galimore, who directs the men's program for USA Gymnastics, said the 360-degree release-and-catch maneuver that Kato reduced to 9.8 had a start value of 10.0 in the past two World Championships and no judge tried to alter it then.
