The Sawmill and the Sawmill Dam were constructed in 1829 by Penacook, NH millwright Theodore Farnum Elliot for Edmund Sanborn.
This "new" sawmill was built to replace an earlier sawmill (c.1777) that Edmund's father John Sanborn had built (The History of Penacook, NH 1902 pp 329-331).
Much of the original equipment for the Sawmill, including remnants of the sash saw carriage were scattered throughout the property, and are being re-used or recreated for the restoration.
