Sawyer County is a county located in the state of Wisconsin.
The racial makeup of the county is 81.72% White, 0.31% Black or African American, 16.07% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.35% from other races, and 1.23% from two or more races.
In the county, the population is spread out with 24.10% under the age of 18, 6.00% from 18 to 24, 24.60% from 25 to 44, 27.40% from 45 to 64, and 17.90% who are 65 years of age or older.

Sawyer Camp is as close as most of us will ever get to the off-limits watershed property, which is a shame, since it looks pretty from this fenced-off trail.
Seasoned hikers will probably prefer one of the other dirt trails in nearby county parks, as walking on this paved trail definitely is not a wilderness experience.
Sawyer Camp occasionally drifts inland, away from the water for short stretches, but then returns to offer fabulous views across the reservoir to the off-limits western hills.

Construction is scheduled to begin the week of September 5 on a $418,729 contract to recondition 8.9 miles of County M in Sawyer County.
The Sawyer County Highway Department will be replacing culverts as well as grading and placing base course on County M from the Rusk/Sawyer County line to County W. Construction is scheduled through October 2005, with paving to be completed in summer 2006.
County M will remain open to one lane in each direction throughout construction.

Sawyer County Circuit Judge Norman L. Yackel issued a one-sentence ruling deciding a jury from Dane County will be selected for the trial of Chai Soua Vang, 36, a truck driver from St. Paul, Minn., who also was deer hunting when the shootings occurred last fall.
Kohn said he also had feared jurors picked from Sawyer County would have felt pressure to convict Vang regardless of the opinions they formed from the evidence presented.
Kohn declined to characterize the decision as a victory for the defense.

The filings by Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager and her co-counsel were in reply to motions Vang's defense attorneys filed in March seeking to move the trial or have the jury selected from another county, and to keep the defendant's jailhouse statement from being used as evidence.
Sawyer County Circuit Judge Norman Yackel will hear arguments on the change of venue motion and the request to suppress Vang's statements during a hearing set to begin June 8.
Vang is being held in Sawyer County in lieu of $2 million bail.

Attorneys for the accused Sawyer County shooter, 36-year-old Chai Soua Vang, have filed six motions regarding the murders of six hunters and wounding of two others.
The motions call for removing the trial from Sawyer County or empaneling a jury from outside of the area, sequestering any jury during the entire length of the trial, and allowing attorneys to see all of the videotapes made of Vang after his arrest.
Another motion filed yesterday in Sawyer County is also sealed until a judge hears it in June.
