Saxon Shore Way - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (via CobWeb/3.1 planetlab2.tamu.edu)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-07)
The Saxon Shore Way starts at Gravesend, Kent and traces the coast as it was in Roman times (note the changed coastline around Romney Marsh) as far as Hastings, East Sussex, 163 miles (262 km) in total.
The Way takes its name, The Saxon Shore, from a line of fortifications built along the coastline as it was in the 3rd century AD, towards the end of the Roman period.
In this time of crisis Saxon invaders came from the southern regions of modern Denmark and in response the Romans built a line of defensive forts along the coast to repel the newcomers.

Departing from the trademark indie-pop established by Be A Bright Blue, Four Months of Darkness is an expansion of the Saxon Shore sound, allowing meandering song structure and brooding tension throughout the unsettled beauty of its instrumental tale of struggling duality.

Yes, but only to an extent -- Saxon Shore are clearly aiming for a Big Epic Rock sound in the way that Fridmann is unquestionably great at overseeing, yet Exquisite Death for that reason is a very unsurprising album, where the majesty is welcomed for its familiarity more than for its newness.
Starting with the massive-sounding "The Revolution Will Be Streaming," all ascending guitar lines and huge drums, Exquisite Death captures moods both of universe-filling sonics and gentle, meditative reflections.
Saxon Shore have yet to make the best mark they can, but Exquisite Death is still well worth a listen.
