In short you have a choice between Sca Fell, Scafell Pike and Scafell Crag, it depends on what mountain or mountains you are looking at.
Sca Fell however is shown as indicating an area of fell on OS 1:50k (larger area) and OS 1:10k (smaller area) indicating that it is a general area of fell land which doesn't include Scafell Pike.
However, whilst the OS maps may indicate Sca Fell as an area of fell, Jon and I along with other walkers think of the summit at grid ref NY206064 as Sca Fell (964m asl).

It does not cross the highest point on Great Sea Fell, and this needs to be borne in mind in mist.
There is no view of Meal Fell to the west, and no path leading towards it either, but this is the direction to take when leaving Great Sea Fell.
To descend, first continue along the crest of the fell to reach a stone shooting butt on a shoulder, then veer to the left and descend on a heathery slope.

 Uldale on the Internet - Walk 2 - Great Sca Fell
The fell is intimately linked with Great Sca Fell but cannot be considered as one of the Uldale Fells since its summit, at 710m (2,300ft), lies inside an area of Caldbeck parish which is barely 1km wide.
Wainwright, commenting on the fells' typically flat summit, joked that if a bat, ball and wickets could be found in the depths of somebody's rucksack it would be an ideal place for a game of cricket.
Windshelters and sheepfolds are common features amongst these fells and would have provided much needed shelter for shepherds and their flocks during periods of cold or windy weather.

I am unable to recall much of the detail of section 3 from Sca fell to Thunacar Knot, only that they were the most difficult hours that I have ever experienced on the fells, at one point I thought the only way off would be by helicopter.
Every time I screamed and fell with cramp the lads set about stretching my legs, they tried everything they could to keep me going, there was encouragement from them all the way, without their dogged determination I may have quit.
Paul O'Hara is a real expert of the Northern Fells and his navigation through this awkward section was excellent though I think everyone fell at least once on the descent to the river Caldew.

Along with Ben Nevis and Snowdon it is one of the mountains climbed as part of the Three Peaks Challenge.
Originally the name 'The Pikes of Sca Fell' was applied to the peaks which are nowadays known as Scafell Pike, Ill Crag and Broad Crag.
The neighbouring peak, Sca Fell, looks higher from many angles, but is actually just 10 feet lower.
