The ethylene oxide plant, (straddling the first and second phases of Botany's development) is likely to continue to operate while the complex remains viable given firm demand for ethylene oxide surfactants and its derivatives.
The Botany complex has undergone three significant years, 1940 with its beginnings, 1983 with an investment in a major LPG/naphtha cracker that might otherwise have seen the progressive closure of the plant, and in 1996 with access to ethane from South Australia that is shaping the plant to be ethylene based.

The left percentage for each student reflects the traditional grade scale, while the right percentage reflects the grade scale based on the highest student.
Grade scales based on the highest student are often used in difficult courses where students seldom come close to the maximum possible points, and the traditional grade scale is much too stringent with few or no A's.
It also has more A's and B's if the total points of the highest student is considerably less than the total possible points; however, in Botany 115 on-line students often come closer to the total possible points, and consequently there are more A's using the traditional grade scale.

Systematic botany attempts to group organisms according to their physical characteristics in a way that reflects their evolutionary relationships.
Systematic botany thus pursues categorization on a par with inquiry--categories are not a corollary of information but, instead, are a mode of creation and argumentation, an activity that provides the nomenclature and unifying context through which botanical information and enigmas are communicated within and beyond the scientific community.
