We have come to recognize that there is an even larger, world-wide "Scaled community." As soon as news of the accident became known to the public, we started to receive emails from people all over the world - offering prayers, kind words of support and even financial gifts.
As a result of this generous outpouring, the Scaled Family Support Fund was established to forward such contributions to the families.
Scaled Composites, LLC is an aerospace and specialty composites development company located in Mojave, California (about 80 miles north of Los Angeles).

The Scaled Composites Model 311 Virgin Atlantic GlobalFlyer is an aircraft designed by Burt Rutan that Steve Fossett flew in a non-stop solo trip around the world from February 28, 2005 until March 3, 2005.
Physically, the GlobalFlyer aircraft resembles an enlarged, slender P-38 Lightning, with twin tail booms mounted outboard of a smaller, central nacelle.
The wings are made of sturdy composite materials with the skin of the aircraft being a graphite/epoxy and Aramid honeycomb.

Scaled Composites is an aerospace and specialty composites development company located in Mojave, Calif. Founded in April 1982 by Burt Rutan, Scaled has a broad experience in air vehicle design, tooling and manufacturing, specialty composite structure design, analysis and fabrication, and developmental flight testing.
