Scaling limit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In physics, the scaling limit is a term applied to the behaviour of a lattice model in the limit of the lattice spacing going to zero.
If we wish to have a lattice model which approximates a continuum quantum field theory in the limit as the lattice spacing goes to zero, then this corresponds to finding a second order phase transition of the model.
This is the scaling limit of the model.

To be precise about the assumptions, the scaling limit has been shown to be ISE for the spread-out model if $d>8$ and $L$ is sufficiently large, and for the nearest-neighbour model if $d$ is sufficiently large.
The hypothesis of universality implies that the scaling limit should be the same for spread-out and nearest-neighbour lattice trees, and assuming this, our results provide evidence that the scaling limit of nearest-neighbour lattice trees is ISE for $d>8$.
That the scaling limit of lattice trees should be ISE for $d>8$ was conjectured by Aldous, who has emphasized the role of ISE as a model for the random distribution of mass \cite{Aldo93}.

CMOS design near the limit of scaling
As the CMOS dimension, in particular the channel length, is scaled to the nanometer regime (<100 nm), however, the electrical barriers in the device begin to lose their insulating properties because of thermal injection and quantum-mechanical tunneling [2].
This is because some of the thermally distributed electrons at the source of the transistor have high enough energy to overcome the potential barrier controlled by the gate voltage and flow to the drain (Figure 2 inset).
In terms of the threshold-voltage sensitivity to channel-length variations, the superhalo profile extends the scaling limit by a factor of nearly 2.

 Deep Inelastic Scattering: x-scaling
, x is interpreted as the fraction of the nucleon's momentum carried by the struck quark (0scaling limit then represents the momentum distribution of the quarks (see section 4.4 or [14]).
The observation of the expected scaling is a strong indication that the parton model of the proton is correct, and that there is a quark substructure to the proton.
As was the case with y-scaling, both the observation of scaling in x and measurements of the deviations from scaling are of interest.

The scaling limit in the PWIA arises from the behavior of the integration limits in Eq.
Because the spectral function is strongly localized within the region of integration, we have already extended the upper integration limits to infinity.
When the momentum distribution is extracted from the scaling function, it can be used to examine the effects of the nuclear medium, and the nucleon-nucleon interactions.

MOS Scaling: Transistor Challenges for the 21st Century
Gate oxide thickness must be approximately linearly scaled with channel length to maintain the same amount of gate control over the channel to ensure good short channel behavior.
During device optimization, channel doping is increased as the oxide is scaled to maintain approximately the same device threshold voltage.
The thickness limit is the same for both materials and is not limited by manufacturing control.

Little string theory in a double scaling limit
A double scaling limit can be defined in string theory on a Calabi-Yau (CY) manifold by approaching a point in moduli space where the CY space develops an isolated singularity and at the same time taking the string coupling to zero, while keeping a particular combination of the two parameters fixed.
This leads to a decoupled theory without gravity which has a weak coupling expansion, and can be studied using a holographically dual non-critical superstring description.
We use holography to compute two and three point functions in weakly coupled double scaled little string theory, and study the spectrum of the theory in various dimensions.

Authors: Bonora, L. Xiong, C. In the context of hermitean one--matrix models we show that the emergence of the NLS hierarchy and of its reduction, the KdV hierarchy, is an exact result of the lattice characterizing the matrix model.
Said otherwise, we are not obliged to take a continuum limit to find these hierarchies.
We interpret this result as an indication of the topological nature of them.
