First World War.com - Encyclopedia - Scapa Flow
Scapa Flow was the designated anchorage of the British Royal Navy's Grand Fleet during the First World War.
It was from Scapa Flow that the Grand Fleet put to sea at the end of May 1916 to engage the German High Seas Fleet in what was to comprise the last great fleet action between two of the world's great naval powers at Jutland.
In 1919 Scapa Flow lost its status as the fleet's main base to Rosyth in the Firth of Forth; it was however restored with the arrival of renewed war in 1939.

 Scapa Flow
Scapa Flow was a homebred for the 17th Earl of Derby, who had purchased her dam, Anchora (1905 by Love Wisely ‚ Eryholme by Hazelhatch) on the advice of trainer George Lambton, who felt her race record and pedigree added a much needed dimension of stoutness to the Derby bloodstock.
Scapa Flow was a nice blend of the best qualities of both her sire and dam, since Chaucer needed mates with some size and substance, and Anchora needed some class and quality.
So Scapa Flow was sent to the breeding shed in 1918, where she was bred first to John O'Gaunt, who was otherwise undistinguished except for having sired Derby's star Swynford.

Because the Scapa Flow flew the flag of Panama, there was no need to be squeamish about the number of aliens signed on her, even though she was an American-owned ship.
The impression was widespread that he forced the Scapa Flow through the voyage without proper repairs or competent officers because he thought the ship probably, would make it, and he could, therefore, hasten the day when he would assume command of the new Liberty ship that was promised him on his return to the States.
This voyage on the Scapa Flow was the first of his life, with the exception of the passenger trip he made in emigrating to the United States.

Historically, load and stress-testing at the client level is done by generating some form of simulation of user activity, which in turn fires off various requests to the server, and the server fires back with a variety of new windows the user interacts with and creates a series of transactions.
Scapa refers to this concept as n-Tier Resonance, since stress introduced at one tier in the architecture is made to resonate accurately through other tiers so that the effects of communication latency is reflected at both the client and server ends of testing.
What Scapa ends up with is a generic core load-generation element to the tool, and then a series of connectors that link to specific applications.
