When Scarlet Street was released in 1945, director Fritz Lang was an established and respected director who had been living stateside for roughly ten years, producing and directing within the Hollywood system.
Scarlet Street was shot by Milton Krasner in the classic film-noir fashion, a fl and white that wonderfully conveys the timeless noir mood of physical contrast.
Scarlet Street is cloaked in its own dark little world of shadows and rain, existing within a definable area of the Twentieth Century, but otherwise obscure.

For those who really want a copy of "Scarlet Street," I would recommend recording it onto VHS tape, a hard drive, or a recordable DVD the next time that it's shown on TCM or AMC.

Scarlet Street is not one of Lang's better films, but it's good that Kino is continuing to explore his catalogue.
All of the other versions of Scarlet Street currently available are from poor quality prints.

While Lang has a lot of fun with all the illusions, he also dedicates himself to the principle that no good -- or bad -- deed goes unpunished, and that great noir principle, the inescapability from Fate, starts weighing more and more heavily on our characters as they perambulate through their sundry fictions and cons.
Also of note: *Scarlet Street* is a follow-up of sorts to Lang's previous movie, *The Woman in the Window*, which featured the same cast (Robinson, Bennett, and Duryea)!

After many inquiries I was happy to find that a good friend had worked for years for her son Robert Riskin, Jr who owns and runs the legendary L.A. music store "McCabes." E-mails between her son and I transpired and I was beginning to wonder if the interview would ever happen.
I ran down the street after her and caught the super-stretch just as it was turning at the light.

He sees a young woman being slapped around by a guy on a street corner, so he hauls his old dried up bum over there and beats the young man down with his umbrella (is this guy my great-grandma?).
In order to keep the apartment, they'll need to keep Chris around to finance it and since Chris knows where it is and he thinks he's having an affair with Kitty then he'll probably turn up now and again.
