As a result, archaeoastronomers have claimed that Stonehenge represents an "ancient observatory," although the extent of its use for that purpose is in dispute.

Now a Scheduled Ancient Monument, John Wilkinson, the pioneering industrialist, built Penrhos Engine House in the late 18th Century, in order to house an engine to pump water from his coal mine on the site.
Following the erection of the scaffolding it was found that the structure was in a very precarious condition and significant areas of the buildings masonry have had to be carefully dismantled and then re-erected.

Resistivity survey was undertaken at the site of Mohun Castle, South Perrot, Dorset (Scheduled Ancient Monument - Dorset 763), in response to a request from Paul Gosling, the Inspector of Ancient Monuments for Dorset.
The latter is situated within the remains of Mohun Castle and the area of the proposed extension impinges on part of the scheduled site.
It was hoped that the geophysical survey would allow a broader understanding of the nature of any surviving buried remains.

It was designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument in August 1996, however it is not a Listed Building.
It is the remains of a medieval town house, and nationally is an important surviving example of a very early secular stone building.
Depending on the outcome of the study, it is intended to repair the monument and possibly incorporate it into a sensitive development.
