Johann Gottlob Schneider - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Johann Gottlob Theaenus Schneider (January 18, 1750–January 12, 1822) was a German classicist and naturalist.
In 1774, on the recommendation of Christian Gottlob Heine, he became secretary to the famous Strassburg scholar Richard François Brunck, and in 1811 became professor of ancient languages and eloquence at Breslau (chief librarian, 1816) where he died in 1822.
In 1801 he corrected and expanded re-published Marcus Elieser Bloch's Systema Ichthyologiae iconibus cx illustratum, a famous catalog of fishes with beautiful illustrations that is cited (as Bloch and Schneider, 1801) as the taxonomy authority for many species of fish.

 The Ontological Nature of Subjects
taxonomy is that it is populated by non-experts, who for various reasons do not always completely explore or understand the taxonomy before making their selection as to where a new entry belongs.
This means that any taxonomy which will exploit subsumption must be a taxonomy of concepts, and therefore subjects must be concepts, as shown in Figure 2.
The subject taxonomy is represented as concepts (as in Figure 2), and each subject individual classified under concepts in that taxonomy.

We shall examine the taxonomy's failure to outline the implicit assumptions surrounding the theories it describes and its neglect of alternative dimensions of PBC theory.
As it happens, all the models that they place in their taxonomy assume voters' inflation myopia, but a significant amount of the literature instead ignores voters' myopia in favour of asymmetric information between voters and future governments as the cause of the cycles.
The Alt and Chrystal taxonomy, the traditional starting point for work on PBC theory, was shown to be inadequate as a description of the diverse models in use.

Mopsos - From subjective tags to objective glossaries
What they typically do is sit down and compare the tags and keywords each member of the group uses to characterize the common domain, from which they negotiate and derive some group taxonomy or ontology that every group member will be asked to use in the context of the group's activity.
On knexsis/jalios, any collected piece of information can be tagged using an official and organized list of tags/keywords, common to the group, and each group member can add new tags if she doesn't find her way in the official list.
The bottom line is a trade-off between total freedom (subjective tags on a personal KM tool) which may be meaningful to me but not to others, and more constraints (nodes on a group taxonomy/ontology) which I might find more cumbersome but which allows for better sharing within a group.

As an introduction to this discussion, I would like to outline present caiman taxonomy with reference to King and Burke (1997) as a standard.
Medem (1981, 1983) and others have argued that because the name crocodilus was misapplied to all crocodilians, Schneider's original specific epithet, sclerops (1801), should be applied to this taxon.
As I alluded to earlier, the fl caiman has had a confusing nomenclatural history despite the fact that it has been recognized since it was first described as a unique crocodilian.

Some people believe that upper level ontologies are important, others think they are a waste of time, and prefer to concentrate on lightweight ontologies, focusing on the minimal terminological structure (often just a taxonomy) which fits the needs of a specific community.
Hence, when in doubt, we prefer to introduce new categories, since it is easy to explain their general behavior, while keeping at the same time the conceptual tools needed to account for their specific characteristics.

We prefer a taxonomy that calrifies the evolutionery relationships among the components and that highlights, rather than obscures, the complex interactions of the past and the present.
Accordingly, while we recognise that a new taxonomy may be required when studies in progress are concluded, for the present we recommend continued recognition of the Ensatina complex as a single taxonomic species.
