SOVA, the School of Visual Arts, is now COVAD, the College of Visual Arts and Design.
This year we are adding a new Bachelor of Arts program in Interdisciplinary Art and Design Studies along with new BFA concentrations in Watercolor and New Media.
Five new tenure track faculty in art education, fashion and interior design, printmaking and photography, as well as a new department chair in Art Education/Art History and four visiting faculty are joining the COVAD community this fall.

It was established in 1947 by co-founders Silas H. Rhodes and Burne Hogarth as the Cartoonists and Illustrators School and was renamed in 1956.
SVA is a fully accredited college that requires the completion of a four-year, 128 credit course for a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.

It is the purpose of the school to provide a comprehensive education in the visual arts through studio practice, art history, cultural studies, and critical studies.
The art education program requires competency in visual art technique and processes, analysis of the place of the arts in our historical heritage and current community, and the ability to apply the arts to human growth and learning.

DENTON (UNT), Texas — D. Jack Davis, the first dean of the University of North Texas School of Visual Arts, plans to resign his position at the end of this academic year after leading the school for 11 years.
The UNT School of Visual Arts was created in 1992 when the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board reclassified the art department, acknowledging the quality and professional nature of art degrees at UNT.
During his tenure with the university, he has served as chair of the Department of Art from 1976 to 1983, associate vice president for academic affairs from 1983 to 1985 and vice provost from 1985 to 1993.
