Riverside (house) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It was built for steel magnate Charles M. Schwab, and was the grandest and most ambitious house ever built on the island of Manhattan.
The 75-room mansion between 73rd and 74th Streets was designed by an architect with only a modest reputation, Maurice Ebert, as an eclectic Beaux-Arts mixture of pink granite features that made the Vanderbilt mansions on Fifth Avenue look cramped.
Schwab was a risk-taker and later went bankrupt in the Stock market crash of 1929.

Schwab was assigned to speak about the glorious future of steel, of a grand integrated company able to compete globally.
Schwab knew Louise Carnegie was anxious for her husband to retire, so he turned to her.
Rather than castigating Schwab, Carnegie said he'd have to think it over and that Schwab should call on him the next morning-perhaps that dinner at which Schwab and Morgan met was not a matter of coincidence.

The Haunted Mansion is an attraction that may be too graphic for young children, so parental discretion is advised, yet it still lacks the effort of being terrifying.

The bride decides to hide in a trunk in the attic of the "Mansion" when the trunk closes, locking her inside, not to be discovered until it is too late.

Schwab, following a conference with President Woodrow Wilson, was appointed Director General of the Emergency Fleet Corporation, and he immediately turned his abilities solely to the vital work of building of ships.
Schwab’s name had been mentioned before for more than one government post, but he felt his position as head of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation one of the most essential of the war industries, was of vital importance.
Schwab’s services were virtually commandeered by the government, meaning that his experience as a steel maker and builder of ships has been drafted for the nation to aid in the war against Germany.

Stevenson is also said to have strongly denied moving the mansion for spite, and that he moved it because it was unlikely to sell since the wealthy people in town had already built their homes.
All the mansion's materials were meticulously numbered and carefully dismantled by experienced workmen under the supervision of the original architect, S.W. Foulk and shipped in deep beds of straw.
They then put the mansion back together with all of the numbered stones facing inside so the mansion was actually put together totally in reverse of its original layout.
